2025-2026 Executive Board

Our executive board is elected by our active members every year. We work together year-round to provide a positive environment for collaboration, growth, networking, and support to our past, current, and future members. Read below to see more information about our executive members!

Megan von Abo, '26 
President

Megan has been an SLP member since 2022. She served as the 2023-2024 Treasurer, the 2024-2025 Vice President, and now the 2025-2026 President. She is a Braddock and Schreyer Scholar studying Biotechnology in the Integrated Undergraduate-Graduate degree program with minors in neuroscience and entrepreneurship (ENTI). She is a recipient of prestigious awards, the Goldwater Scholarship and the Astronaut Scholarship. She researches in Dr. Janine Kwapis’ lab studying memory formation and the circadian rhythm. After graduating with her bachelor’s and master’s, she hopes to pursue a PhD in neuroscience and research potential therapies for neurodegenerative diseases.

Fernanda Oguiwara, '26
Vice President

Fernanda has been an SLP member since 2023. She served as the 2024-2025 THON Primary Chair and now the 2025-2026 Vice President. She is studying Biobehavioral Health with minors in Biology and Global Health. She works as a Physical Therapist Technician and a University Health Services Clinic Intern. She also serves as the Secretary of Phi Epsilon Kappa and is an active member of the Brazilian Student Association. After graduating with her BBH degree, she hopes to attend Physician Assistant school and become a Pediatric Physician Assistant at a children’s hospital, while also pursuing a second master’s degree in Public Health.

Hailey Corey, '28
Treasurer

Hailey has been a member of SLP since 2024 and is currently serving as the 2025-2026 Treasurer. She is a Schreyer Honors Scholar pursuing a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Nutritional Sciences. Hailey conducts research in the Rolls Lab, where she uses genetics and live imaging in Drosophila to explore the fundamental cell biology of neurons in their natural environment, aiming to understand how they develop and sustain function throughout an organism’s lifetime. After earning her bachelor’s degree, Hailey plans to attend medical school and pursue a career as an Obstetrician-Gynecologist.

Grace Morani, '26
Alumni and Outreach Director

Grace has been an SLP member since 2022. She served as the 2024-2025 Secretary and is now the 2025-2026 Alumni & Outreach Director. She is studying Biology and works as an EMT on the Hatteras Island Rescue Squad in North Carolina. At Penn State, she has been a THON volunteer for four years, and has served as a Captain on both the Communications and Special Events Committees. After graduation, she plans to attend a Physician Assistant program and become a PA specializing in emergency medicine.

Matthew McGinn, '27
Recruitment Director

Matthew has been an SLP member since 2023. He served as THON Explorers Chair from 2024-2025, and now the 2025-2026 Recruitment Director. He is a Schreyer Honors Scholar studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in sociology. Matthew researches the NS1 nonstructural protein in Zika virus in the Jose Lab of molecular virology. After graduating with his bachelor’s, Matthew plans to attend an MD-PhD program to conduct research on neglected tropical diseases and social determinants of infectious disease.

Makayla Schwoerer, '27 
Secretary

Makayla has been an SLP member since 2023 and is now serving as the 2025-2026 Secretary. She is studying Forensic Science with a focus on Molecular Biology and minoring in Anthropology. She previously worked as a learning assistant for general chemistry lectures and currently has a job at the Penn State Bookstore located in the Hub. After graduating, she plans to attend a master's program to further her experience in forensic science or earn a PhD in Biological Anthropology. Her career aspirations include working with the Innocence Project, helping to identify unknown remains, and analyzing human remnants from archaeological sites.

Rachel Mamula, '26
THON Primary Chair

Rachel has been a member of SLP since 2023. She served as the THON Fundraising Chair for the 2024-2025 school year and is now serving as the THON Primary Chair. She is a premedicine student majoring in biology with minors in both kinesiology and sport studies. She works as a Medical Assistant and also volunteers at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She is an undergraduate research lab assistant in Dr. Gross’ Nutritional Neuropharmacology Lab where she researches food reward behavior in transgenic mice. She has studied abroad in both Ireland and Italy, and loves attending Penn State sporting events. After graduation she hopes to attend medical school and become a pediatric orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine.

Luscinia Quance, '27
Engagement Director

Luscinia has been an SLP member since 2023. She is serving as this year's engagement director. She is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Biology on the pre-med track as well as minors in Jazz Performance and Psychology. She works as an Emergency Department volunteer at Mount Nittany Medical Center and plays piano in Penn State's jazz ensemble Centre Dimensions as well as various other small groups. She is an undergraduate researcher in the Davenport Lab studying the co-evolution of primates and intestinal microbiomes as well as microbiome composition as a marker of health. She has also studied abroad in Dublin, Ireland and completed a microbiome and probiotic research internship with International Flavors and Fragrances. She plans to attend medical school and become an emergency department physician or trauma surgeon.
